Because the child would have been mulatto if his wife had given birth to a white guy, Ben had no qualms whatsoever about his wife’s faithfulness. After doing tests and inspections, doctors came to the conclusion that the girl had a genetic abnormality that caused her to have exceptionally dark skin and hair for her race. The baby’s health, thankfully, was unaffected.
