John Lennon’s son Julian Lennon declared he would never play the well-known song “Imagine,” which advocates for world peace. The singer decided that he would only perform it if the world was about to end because he believed that the world needed to hear his father’s words.
However, due to the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, the 59-year-old felt compelled to perform the song in public as a part of the 2022 Global Citizen’s Stand Up for Ukraine campaign.
Although his father’s song from 1971 was simpler than Julian’s, it nonetheless had a powerful effect.
The “unimaginable tragedy” in Ukraine, Julian claimed, inspired him to “respond in the most significant way I could.”
According to what he wrote, “The song reflects the light at the end of the tunnel, that we are all hoping for.” Millions of innocent families have been compelled to flee the comfort of their homes in order to find asylum abroad as a result of the continued homicidal bloodshed.
More than 4.5 million people have left the country as refugees since the conflict in Ukraine broke out at the end of February.
In support of the Ukrainian refugees, more than $10 billion was pledged at the Global Citizen fundraiser for which Julian performed.
Half of the donations came from governments, businesses, and people all around the world, and the other half came from grants and loans from public European financial institutions.
Julian, the son of John Lennon and his first wife Cynthia Lennon, urged people worldwide to assist not only Ukrainian refugees but also those seeking asylum elsewhere in the world.
“I’m urging international leaders and everyone who agrees with Imagine to speak out in favor of refugees everywhere! Please support causes and make heartfelt donations.
Lovely beyond words. I am at a loss for words in describing Julian’s account and his appeal to assist Ukrainian war refugees.
Please distribute “Imagine” by Julian Lennon to promote peace and awareness throughout the world.
